Les textes de Christophe Colomb et d’Amerigo Vespucci révèlent la difficulté que pose d’emblée à la pensée moderne naissante l’intégration d’une révolution cartographique. Loin de participer d’un quelconque enthousiasme univoque, cette découverte joue ensuite un rôle essentiel dans l’élaboration du scepticisme et dans la naissance de formes historiques inquiètes, comme le montre l’analyse de textes de More et de Montaigne. La découverte du Nouveau Monde constitue ainsi une origine cartographique de la négativité épistémique moderne. This paper aims to examine the effects of the discovery of the New World over the construction of modern modalities of knowledge. The writings of Christopher Columbus and Amerigo Vespucci reveal the difficulty to integrate a cartographic revolution inside the modern thought. Far from joining any unambiguous enthusiasm, this discovery plays a key role both in the elaboration of skepticism and in the birth of anxious historical forms, as will demonstrate the analysis of the writings of More and Montaigne. The discovery of the New World thus constitutes a cartographic origin of modern epistemic negativity.
