INFLUENCE DU CHAMP MAGNÉTIQUE SUR L’INSTABILITÉ THERMOCONVECTIVE DE BÉNARD-MARANGONI
INFLUENCE OF A MAGNETIC FIELD ON BÉNARD·MARANGONI THERMOCONVECTIVE INSTABILITY
Abstract
One examines the problem of the convective instability in a horizontal layer of a conductive fluid submitted to a horizontal magnetic field and heated from below. The upper surface of the fluid is subject to a temperature-dependent surface tension. The originality of the present work is the orientation of the magnetic fluid which is usually assumed to be normal to the fluid layer and the coupling between both buoyancy (Bénard problem) and surface tension (Marangoni problem) effects. Only infinitesimally small disturbances are considered.
