It is argued that different viewpoints on anticipation are determined by different metaphysical backgrounds. Three metaphysics are discussed and compared: one related to Greek philosophy, one related to Kant's viewpoint in bis Critique of Pure Reason, and one related to the Lacanian viewpoint on the Real, the Symbolic and the Imaginary.
