Abstract
The author’s choice of geography is explained by his feeling that it gives a lot of space to rational thinking and cumulative knowledge. His practice has been based on the desire to keep contact with a great variety of themes and on the necessity of adopting all the same a few main fields. Some principles considered as important are then defined : the existence of geography as an intellectual entity, the part played by interactions and system analysis, and finally the situation of time in spatial analysis.
