Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) grain sizes were generally obtained by converting the 2D or 1D grainsizes to 3D with the methods based on spherical grain model (S-model). In this paper, the systematic error and its origin involving the conversion of grain sizes caused by the S-model is analyzed in the 2-D case, and a new polyhedral grain model (P-model) is developed to calculate 3D and 2D grain sizes from the 2D and/or 1D data. Experimental analyses show that the systematic error originated from the spherical model can be well corrected by using the new polyhedral model.
