Today « Geometry » is the name given to a data type that can be implemented within any data base management system that can store binary data for representing the shapes and locations of objects. But the relationship between geometry and geography is an old story. This short paper simply touches on the main domains where geometry plays a significant role in geography, e.g. cartography, spatial analysis and GIS. Finally the paper ends with the way GML uses geometries to describe the geometric aspects of a geographic feature, able to remove some conceptual restrictions of geometry on geography.
